Why this happens

When you copy photos from an iPhone to Windows, Windows stamps every file with the date it landed on the PC instead of the date the photo was taken. File Explorer sorts by that stamp, so a folder of holiday photos comes out shuffled. The real date is not gone. It is stored inside each photo, and Windows just ignores it. Photo Order Fix reads it and puts the folder back in order.

It happens the same way whether you used a cable, downloaded from iCloud, or saved photos someone sent you. It is not something you did wrong, and it is not something File Explorer can fix on its own.

The number goes in front and your own filename stays. Because the order lives in the name, it survives being copied anywhere.

Questions people ask

Why are my iPhone photos in the wrong order on my PC?

When photos are copied from an iPhone to Windows — by cable, by iCloud download, or through a messaging app — Windows stamps each file with the date it arrived on the PC rather than the date the picture was taken. Because File Explorer sorts by that stamp, a folder of holiday photos ends up shuffled. The real date has not been lost; it is stored inside the photo file itself, and Windows simply ignores it.

Does it change or re-save my photos?

No. Photos are renamed, never re-saved or re-compressed, so image quality is untouched byte for byte. Nothing is ever deleted. On a free run the app copies photos into a new folder and leaves the originals exactly as they were.

Will the order stay correct if I move the photos or upload them?

Yes. The order is written into the filenames as 0001, 0002, 0003 and so on, so it travels with the files. Copy them to another PC, a phone, a USB stick, Google Photos or OneDrive and they still sort correctly, because almost everything sorts by name.

Does it work on a Mac?

No. Photo Order Fix is a Windows program, for Windows 10 and Windows 11 only, and there is no Mac version. This is a Windows problem in the first place: macOS reads the date a photo was taken and sorts by it correctly, so photos moved from an iPhone to a Mac do not end up shuffled the way they do on a PC.

Does it work with HEIC photos and iPhone videos?

Yes. HEIC and HEIF photos are what iPhones save by default, and both are read correctly, as are MOV and MP4 videos. Photos and videos are put in order together, so a video taken between two photos stays between them.

What happens to photos that have no date?

Screenshots, downloaded images and photos stripped of their information have no real date to read. Rather than guessing, the app numbers them after everything else, keeping the order they were already in.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only to buy it. The app itself works entirely offline — your photos are never uploaded anywhere, and there is no account to create.

Is it a subscription?

No. It is one payment for a licence that does not expire. The free version handles up to 100 photos per folder with no time limit, no account and no email address required, so you can check it works on your own photos before paying anything.

Can I undo it?

Yes. Every run that renames photos in place writes a small record of the previous names into the folder, and one click puts everything back exactly as it was.
